Watchdogmailer is a web-based tool that allows to receive a configurable mail when a person or technical device has not reported back for a certain time.

Furthermore there is the possibility to receive a mail immediately in case of an acute emergency.

Registration

The registration is done under the item Login in the main menu.

At the bottom you will find the link "No user account created yet?".

In the following form you will be asked for a username, a password and a mail address. A registration mail will be sent to this mail address. Only if you confirm the registration there, the account is activated for registration.

Forgotten username or password

On the registration page you can send your username or reset your password.

Personal URL and access data

After logging in, one lands directly on the page with the individual URL and the access data for this page. The person who is being served has to call up this URL plus access data on his end device and regularly press the green button within the configured time window so that no emergency mail is sent. First, however, the service should be configured as described in the next point under the main menu item "Settings" before passing on the URL.

Settings

In the form Settings you have to configure the following parameters:

  • the watchdog time, i.e. the time after which a mail is sent without a response via the green button.
  • the subject of the watchdogmail
  • the text of the watchdog mail
  • the subject of the emergency mail
  • the text of the emergency mail
  • one or more recipient mail addresses to which the mails should be sent
  • whether location data for compatible end devices should appear in the mail or not

After saving, it takes about 5 minutes until the settings are applied.

Do you want to unsubscribe? After a security question your account and your page will be deleted.

Function

The supervised person receives an individual link and the access data. Once logged in, a clearly arranged page with a green and a red button appears.

The red button immediately generates a mail to the contact person(s) in case of emergency.

The green button should be pressed regularly within the watchdog time, because after the time has expired, a mail would also be generated to the contact persons.

For example, if the watchdog time is set to 15 hours and the green button was pressed for the last time at 8am, then if the button is not pressed again at 11pm, the automatic mail will be generated.

Each press of the green button resets the watchdog and the 15 hour window starts again.

The mail after timeout will be sent only once. Only when the green button is pressed again, another watchdog mail is sent 15 hours later.

When the red button is pressed, a mail is always generated immediately.

So if the cared person presses the green button now around 8 o'clock in the morning and around 20 o'clock in the evening, then there is never a mail and the care person knows that he is well.

The last events can be viewed on the individual web page via the log button.

Advanced functionalities

For personal automation, the links behind the buttons can also be accessed directly. Behind the green button hides the link

<personal URL>/OK

and behind the red button is

<personal URL>/NG

So the page can be operated with programs or apps even without a browser. For the experts, wget, curl or on smartphones HTTP Shortcuts would be a cue.

With the Android app HTTP Shortcuts, the OK and NG links can be triggered conveniently by pressing an icon on the smartphone display. No browser is required and the access data can be saved directly in the app.
